Running Weight Loss- Does running really help you lose a considerable amount of weight?

Okay so im 15 years old and i want to lose some weight. Im not talking about a drastic change here, i just want to tone up and lose some fat around my thighs, the love handle area, and my butt. I dont have alot of fat, but i still wanna lose some. So, i made a plan to start running every other day for twenty minutes, but i want to know, will it work? i mean will i actually lose weight? Should i throw in some water aerobics on the weekends or do some other things? i r eally want to lose this weight, so it would be great if someone gave me some more tips or ideas on how i can. I also would like to know if its going to work, thanks.
