Do achievements for xbox take up hard drive memory?

I have a considerable amount of achievements, I just wonder if they take up any memory, if it makes a difference it's an Xbox 360 Elite. Also as a side question, not at all very often, every 2-3 months, my xbox might freeze, but if you turn it off then back on, it's perfectly fine, why does this happen?
