What motivates religious people to make other people believe the same superstitious nonsense as they do?

Sure, they claim their "holy book" commands them to do it, but as always, they use their dogma to rationalize a preexisting condition. So what is their true motive behind trying to make other people believe the same stuff without evidence as them? To me, I think it's because they know that what they believe is pretty crazy but if they can convince everyone around them to believe it, it's not crazy - it's the norm. So they're just trying to make an abnormal behavior seem normal by controlling the popular vote. Do you agree with this explanation?
