Switching off parents' health insurance?
As a child I had a fairly serious medical condition which required surgery, radiation therapy, MRIs, multiple doctor visits, and medications. I am currently taking 3 different medicines daily and it's recommended that I get a MRI about once a year. All this was covered (at least mostly) under my parents' health care. However, as I look for a career and plan to switch from my parents' health insurance to my own (through workplace), will my new insurer view all those as "Preexisting Conditions" and not pay a penny for them? MRIs are about $5k each and my medication, without insurance, would also be in the thousands each year... am I going to be screwed? Is there some way to list my condition to my new insurer and, say, pay a higher premium but still have those costs covered? I'm really a newbie in this area and am looking for some advice! Thank you for your time.
