Pop culture reference to someone (or something) who was smart but couldn't relate to people?

I'm trying to come up with a pop culture reference to someone (or something) who was extremely well versed in the technicalities of a topic or issue, but because they couldn't relate to the people they were working with (ie, they couldn't empathize or didn't have a preexisting relationship with them), they failed in their mission/objective. Think someone like Spock, but maybe not quite as niche (or nerdy!).
